My .dotfiles project was first created back in February of 2018... It was my first Public Github project and I was eager to get it up and start giving back knowledge I have been snarfing all these years... (I mean since the days of Gopher, Archie etc. No Google or even Alta-Vista back then. We had to use our Archie Fu on the command line...)
Flash forward to 2018... That was an entire year of frustrated configurations as I decided to make my .dotfiles multiplatform, and also multi shell! I ran into some snags and decided to leave this current Github .dotfiles project in its kind-of messed up state while I work on a private cloned fork to get all of the new stuff working and stable first... My private fork contains personal use-case configs that will be made more generic and useful before I merge it back... I don't think anyone is using this yet so hopefully no one is waiting with fingers crossed... (except me)
While working on my private fork my journey revealed a lot of mistakes I made with Bash years earlier and even worse mistakes I made trying to use Zsh in 2018! I discovered the real mess that the unix shell truly is! Not just my ignorance... It's a real mess folks and has been since BASH! OMG! SysAdmins around the globe must be feeling my pain right now... lol
Just last month however I discovered this article by Peter Ward: Shell Startup Scripts which was very informative and had everthing I needed to sort out my mess all in one place! Fantastic! Thank you! thank you! Peter Ward! You are my new guardian angel!
Peter's repo is mercurial (and hosted on Bitbucket) but I did not need to clone it... I only needed to adopt his file structure and basic configurations to my own .dotfiles project...
When this is all done you will see a new commit... (on both master and develop branches) This will be a new major release. (probably V2.0.0) Hopefully that will be coming soon! Still coding now...
