Support writing XDXF and PockedBook dic format #153
Comments
I don't think, that writing functionality for XDXF is ever possible. Because, you see, XDXF file does not simply contain a database pairs <WORD, ARTICLE_TEXT>, it is a sematical and stuctural format, that holds a lot more than just formatted text like XML/HTML/etc. XDXF holds information about nested definitions, usage examples, links to synonims, separated etymology and much more. Converting all this information from, for example, a formatted text is different in every input file (DSL, StarDict, etc.) and you would need to adjust your converter for each input file. |
@ilius, it might be a good idea to put a small disclaimer into your table, maybe? |
@soshial I don't have an e-book reader device. But if we want to implement it, we should implement the simplest form that works well on the most popular applications supporting this format. Although I'm still not sure what those applications are! |
You may a list of software supporting XDXF here: soshial/xdxf_makedict#35 I did not completely understand your thought about support and "simplest form". What I meant is that I am not sure that we may easily convert other formats into XDXF without losing information, because the innate nature of XDXF (being semantic and not representational format). |
I agree this requires a lot of effort nevertheless. Given my priorities and tasks on hand, I don't think I will ever find time to implement this. |
It will be very useful for many e-book readers.
Many users of e-book reads are waiting for it with impatience.
