netlink(4) support in FreeBSD is relatively recent (13.2+) and while all releases of aquaBSD have it, I still test aquariums on a FreeBSD 13.1 machine, so I still have to use the old ioctl API for now unfortunately.

But I should still be using Netlink at some point in the future, which is la raison d'être of this issue :)
