Text scrolling on mapped setups

Once a setup is mapped with the led mapper function, would it then be easy to display scrolling text on this setup ?
Any hints for doing this ?

I just made a 2D Xmas tree outside with 300 leds in a tree setup and it would be great to have a scrolling Xmas message on it
