I came across the error:
Undefined function or variable 'vl_covdet'.
but there is vl_covdet.m and vl_covdet.c. So what is the matter?

The external vlfeat is not compiled.

Please download the vlfeat library and unzip it to the 'external' folder and run the vl_setup to setup vlfeature in Matlab
