New maintainer

This is more like a general question.

It seems that @jeanregisser does not maintain this project anymore. This is a problem with many nice but abandoned libraries which will get hundreds of forks. But there is mostly no central repo where all fixes and improvements will be merged.

How to proceed in such cases where the maintainer disappears or lost interest in his old work?
