I've been having many issues with subtitle on jellyfin on android from either subtitles always out of sync or taking too much time to load or not showing at all.

this issue also affect the android tv app.

My family is having the same issue. Sometimes the subs are out of sync, sometimes just fine.
I don't have the issue when I play the same media in a browser.

Problem occuring on the most recent Android app. Jellyfin server: 10.6.2, running the official docker container on Ubuntu 18.04.3 with Traefik as a reverse proxy.

I'm having the same issue, This problem is affection all of my 4 Android clients.

I use MKV with SRT subs for all my movies and TV shows and never had this problem before v1.0.2

What i noticed:

  1. MKVs with supported codecs that should normally Direct Play are Direct Streaming
  2. The subs delay is only affecting Direct Streams and Transcodes. Direct Playing is fine
  3. The subs delay in Direct Streams is worse than the Transcoded Streams
  4. The subs are delayed from the beginning, and if you skip.. it gets worse!

After downgrading to v1.0.1, the problem seems to be fixed, but not entirely:

  1. MKVs with supported codecs that used to Direct Stream in v1.0.2 are Direct Playing
  2. The subs delay is still happening in Direct Streams and Transcodes. Direct Playing is fine
