In addition to the scatterplot and time series plots, there are several other plots that could add a lot of insight. I made a graph showing boxplots of interannual variability for each month, plus climate change projections of an ensemble of climate models.
This graph has a lot of information, showing the seasonal cycle in both the mean and the variability of the climate variable. it also shows the scale of climate change relative to interannual variability, Finally, it indicates the level of model agreement changes across the seasons.
this graph could be even more informative if we overlaid the comparison BEC unit, which is activated by hover-over on the map or by dropdown selection. in this case, we can see that the CDFmm is not only warmer overall than the focal BEC unit, but also has less interannual and intra-annual variability.
