K3d Vs Vcluster

Hi,

I'm wondering if k3d can create new cluster on the same machine would it be fair to compare it against vcluster which creates a cluster within a cluster, can k3d create a cluster that can communicate with other clusters?
Any other limitation or issues that come to mind?

Our use case is to create a new env from the production env to play around with while having both security and isolation between the two.
