The current base URL is http://api.worldbank.org/v2/sdmx/rest. Queries to this base URL in a web browser appear to renegotiate to HTTPS; but with requests/sdmx this does not appear to happen; see e.g. iiasa/message-ix-models#217.

Replacing with the equivalent HTTPS URL (https://api.worldbank.org/v2/sdmx/rest) causes symptoms to disappear.

To resolve:

  • Confirm the change with the source/upstream.
  • Adjust sources.json.
  • Make a new release:
