Part of https://github.com/kinu-garage/essay_in_idleness/issues/178

Books fall:

  • to the back of the shelf on the level where there's no backing (there's some spokes on some levels but not all).
  • to either side. Bookstand that bind from sides don't seem to hold enough force if there are many books.

This metal book ends https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08ZMKJK73/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A2S4T2WAJCD013&psc=1 have a back, not just the sides. Will try 1.

That turned to be great so kept buying several of them. Then hit an issues. Reviewing that first:

  • 👍 Books not falling toward the side.
  • 👍 Bookend itself not moving (by being pushed by the books).
  • ❌ All the bookends of this kind come with the internal separators that separate the entire book space into multiple smaller conpartments. So basically this kind of bookend splits one book space into multiple smaller book spaces where each space can hold only a limited number of books (while human may continue to be tempted to put books to the entire book space).
  • ❌ If the back of the book space is hollow, books may still fall, when the entire bookend falls.

As a potential solution to the shortcomings above, I'll try bungee bands (inspired at this reddit.com post. Getting one from QuakeHold (on amazon.com this particular product was unavailable).
