Unable to load applet without reinstalling extension

Ever since the recent UI update, I have to frequently uninstall and reinstall the extension for it to work. When I go to a site (not publicly accessible), the applet will not load. Toggling the "Enable for this domain" switch refreshes the page but still does not load the applet. Only after uninstalling and reinstalling the extension does the applet load. With the old UI -- where you had to click the extension to enable it rather than remembering a domain -- this was not an issue on the same site.
