As the new kid on the block, to help people understand what's new and how it fits with their requirements, I think it would be really useful to compare against not just React hooks, but "prior art" popular state management systems such as RxJS (with hooks), MobX, Redux, Recoil, Zustand?

Glad you think so! I definitely see the value in a comparison/motivation writeup. There's so many state management libraries out there that I think it's crucial to explain the need for a new one. I'll do some thinking on this.
