We try to create kind of an open meeting-point and would love to see when someone has joined.

Maybe by a bot or right under the posted invitation.

What is the use case of this feature?

My concerns is that it might be to spammy. Would the recipient of these messages be the whole channel or just the creator of the meeting?

Well, when you are able to enable or disable this feature, then this is an active decision and should bother anybody.

Furthermore members are able to turn a mattermost channel quiet.
