Briefly describe the discussion topic and what decision is needed
A decision is needed to determine whether ORCiD compliance is worth it.

Add additional information, and any initial thoughts to begin the conversation
We need a clear definition of a creditable vocabulary product associated with a given researcher. .

This decision is tied to three tasks, linked. If this is deemed not an effort worth pursuing, these tasks will need to be closed.

Either way, it may be an easy bug fix (or not) to make the ORCID button from the Profile do something like bring in the identifier rather than just going to the login page.

Right now the Orcid api (a pretty old version) is used to both sign in and retrieve an orcid id. You cannot retrieve your id without signing in. You could just paste it in there, but to be useful it needs to follow the standard format.

Currently the "Connect to Orcid" link from the Profile page points to yamz.net/login. I don't recall why that is. Is there a way to allow connecting to orcid in the safe, read-only mode?
