I get this when I try to convert a valid swagger json document. Any thought on how I can debug the issue?

Are you getting any type of stack trace or just the not-so-helpful details you mentioned?

Would you be able to share any of the document or is it private?

Also just double checking, you are using a v2.0 OpenAPI spec?
