why do you need a mod and datapack?

its a bit confusing when you have a datapack and a mod, cant it just be packeged into one mod like https://modrinth.com/mod/i-want-it-earlier but for 1.20.4?

You don't need both the mod and data pack. You can pick one of the options, whichever is easiest for you to install.

thats not really that clear tbh. you only talk about the datapack, maybe add instructions for modded servers.
