Modal windows not visible on narrow viewports

Modal windows appear to have a fixed width, meaning on narrow viewports some content is not visible. Additionally, horizontal scrollbars appear to be disabled, or are not triggered by the presence of a modal window, meaning the user can be prevented seeing or interacting with the modal, and in some cases may have to leave or refresh the page to escape it.
