Based on JupyterLab 4 compatibility list, here are some extensions that jump out as potentially useful for our users:

• jupyterlab-github >= 4.0.0
• jupyterlab-nvdashboard - (open PR)
• rise >= 0.40.0
• search-replace >= 1.1.0
• jupyter_bokeh - (open PR)
• ipyml >= 0.9.3 (perhaps could just be added by users?)
• jupyterlab-gitlab >= 4.0.0

Some thoughts on extensions proposed in #2135 (comment): search-replace might be confusing as it does not support searching notebooks yet (but it could!); rise is still maturing and has some rough edges (does not mean these should not be included). ipympl is a must, but may need to be installed in the kernel space.

Other extensions I think are generally beneficial:

• https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-recents (it will be included in in core in JupyterLab 4.2)
• jupyterlab-geojson from https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyter-renderers

Extensions which would be good to have as disabled by default but preinstalled:

• https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-unfold - tree-like file browser, very handy

Extensions which require configuration but might provide a lot of value:

• https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-tour - adding a dedicated nebari tour would be great
• https://github.com/jupyter-lsp/jupyterlab-lsp - after configuring language servers a few IDE features become available
