Feature Request: Quick Jump to a Specific Period in Nextcloud Photos

Context:
In large photo collections, manually scrolling to find pictures from a specific date can be time-consuming and inefficient. Other systems offers a solution with its timeline feature that allows users to quickly jump to a specific period (month, year, or a custom interval) without needing to scroll through the entire photo library. Implementing a similar feature in Nextcloud Photos would enhance user experience and efficiency.

Proposal:
Introduce a quick jump date selector in Nextcloud Photos that enables users to instantly navigate to a specific time period, such as a particular month, year, or even a custom date range, bypassing the need for extensive scrolling.

Requested Feature Details:

  1. Date selector interface: Add an easily accessible date picker or timeline slider in the user interface that allows for fast selection of a specific month, year, or custom date range.
  2. Instant navigation: Once a date or range is selected, the user is taken directly to the corresponding photos without needing to manually scroll through other periods.
  3. Flexible options: The date selector should allow for broad ranges (e.g., whole years) or more precise intervals (specific months or weeks), giving users control over how granular they want their search to be.
  4. Preview thumbnails in the date selector: As users move the selector, small preview thumbnails could appear, giving a visual indication of the images in that time period.
  5. Optimized for large libraries: Especially useful for users with extensive photo collections, ensuring they can efficiently access older photos or specific memories with minimal effort.

Expected Benefits:

  • Improved efficiency: Users save time by skipping the need to scroll through large amounts of photos to find a specific date or period.
  • Better user experience: The intuitive interface simplifies the process of finding specific memories, enhancing the overall photo browsing experience.
  • Precise photo retrieval: Whether looking for a specific event or reviewing a particular period, the quick jump feature makes photo management easier and faster.

Implementing this feature in Nextcloud Photos would significantly boost the ease of navigation, making the platform more user-friendly and comparable to leading photo management solutions like other systems.

It would be great to have a date selector like this on Android, iOS, and the Nextcloud website.
