I'm interested in contributing, what needs doing?

As far as I'm aware the only thing existing apart from a vision is the database schema. So pretty much everything.

... and we have an XPI parser for metadata if I remember correctly.

I've looked at multiple php frameworks and while Laravel, Yii, Symfony, and
Phalcon are all very popular, of those I like Phalcon the best, but have
yet to really learn how to use it. Codeigniter 3 is coming soon (I'm
working with the dev version on a project at work), and I'd almost suggest
we just push forward with that since I at least know it extremely well...it
has it's ups and downs, but never has failed me.

As an addendum to codeigniter, there are "sparks" which are autoloaded, but
they work faster/better if you just drop them in the project. One such is
ion_auth, and I use the git version... all worth a look/discussion.

Imho there are two options: raw php (which I love for various reasons) or sticking with the framework we're started with as we have @ilikenwf as an expert there. I don't quite see any sense in switching to a framework nobody knows.
