SIB curators are moving from free text annotation describing the effects of variation on protein structure and function, e.g. "reduces protein stability", "interferes with zinc binding". They have figured out a data model that composes a direction (+,-,etc), an attribute (stability, activity, affinity), and optionally an existing entity (protein, chemical, GO term).
Investigate if OBA compatible design patterns would be appropriate.
Also investigate gaps in PATO that would be needed to accomplish this
