We would like some terms added relating to lifespan, reproductive success and embryonic lethality. We suggest a parent term ‘abnormal viability of whole organism’ (PATO:0000169), with children ‘Decreased life span’ (PATO:0001604), ‘embryonic lethal’ (PATO:0000718) and ‘semi-viable’ (PATO:0001770). We would also suggest another branch ‘Abnormal reproductive quality of whole organism’ (PATO:0001434) with children ‘abnormal fertility’(PATO:0000274), ‘abnormal fecundity’ (PATO:0000273), ‘abnormal brood quality’ (PATO:0001496) and ‘abnormal sterility’ (PATO:0000956). Possibly some of the other PATO children of ‘fertility’ should be included.
While these were our inital thoughts after discussion it was decided that we would wait to see how Flybase is handling this issue as it is something they are actively addressing, perhaps this thread is relevant. Our current suggestion may be too granular.
