This is a feature request for a special karma system for oftn-bot which uses an algorithm similar to the PageRank™ algorithm used in Google searches. People with more karma will have more influence in the karma they dish out. A high-ranking user's -- and ++ on a user can be devastating, so you must be nice to these people.

We need to figure out what algorithm to use since there are more intricacies involved. Instead of links, we have ++. We need to figure out how to handle -- correctly.

I can't assign multiple people, but this should be worked on jointly by me, @gkatsev, and @eligrey.

Actually, there are two versions of PageRank. There's the algorithm itself and there is also the one trademarked by by google. So, you don't need the ™.
Also, it should be my name first, just sayin'. 😈

Grey-Katsevman sounds nicer with the shorter name first. Also, did eboy bring anything unique to the pagerank-based algorithm discussion? Grey-Katsevmann is already a lot of syllables; I'm not sure that Grey-Katsevmann-Samarin will sell as well to HN users reading my blog post.

If we want to go by contribution to the idea, it would be the Katsevman IRC Karma System. How about we take the RSA approach and call it the KGS karma system?

That sounds good but we need to let everyone know that we use superior science by putting a number at the end. How about KGS-6?

Hi Chaps-

That sounds good but we need to let everyone know that we use superior science by putting a number at the end. How about KGS-6?

The sheer force of bikeshedding in this thread has made my head melt into a pool of radioactive slag.

I take all credit for myself. http://www.scsh.net/docu/html/man.html
Also, yeah, wow, it was mostly meant as a joke.

prophile: we're allowed to have fun with (and bikeshed) naming things

Joking aside, we have more serious issues to face than what to call the Samarin IRC Karma System. 😜

Hi Eli-

prophile: we're allowed to have fun with and bikeshed naming things

I had fun once. It was awful.
