JavaScript heap out of memory when installing

I've tried to use the docker image on four different machines, but docker compose up runs for a while then dies with:
FATAL ERROR: Ineffective mark-compacts near heap limit Allocation failed - JavaScript heap out of memory

The last thing it has to say for itself before it dies is:
=> ERROR [api builder 23/26] RUN yarn workspace @omnivore/api build

The server I'd like to run it on has 2GB of memory. Is that not enough, or is there a config file I can tweak to raise the memory limit or similar?

I threw more memory at the machine. It didn't finish with 4 GB but if did with 8.

Additionally, it required about 12 GB free hard drive space.
