Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Apps should expose reasonable metrics for monitoring.

Describe the solution you'd like
Over time the general plan is to appropriately proper metrics for each app. In the mean time we will most likely just use the opentelemetry java agent to get some.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Provide no metrics.
