What is actually going with Inlang? #200

Hi Christian, Messages like these get me really excited. Thanks for opening the discussion! The approach I demoed on YouTube a year ago had one severe flaw that I encountered in February/March this year: Keeping the state between developers that operate on git repositories and the database, the state that translators operate on, in sync is hard and ultimately leads to two sources of truth. Giving up git as the source of truth, as many existing solutions do, eliminates the approach that I felt was missing: developer-first. I want to use CI/CD, I want an IDE extension, and I want automatic linting of translations. Earlier this year while inlang's beta was close to being finished, I suddenly had a lightbulb moment: "Why am I trying to replicate git [to enable sync between git repos and the database] on a database instead of leveraging git as a (content) database, collaboration hub, and automation layer?". Sounded too good to be true. I build a prototype that runs git in the browser https://www.loom.com/share/c31bf686e76f4adaaca9dd99c419c95a?t=93 in April/June. And damn, it worked! It was/is hacky but it worked/works. What followed after the prototype was two months of very good distraction that lead to a huge milestone (more to be announced soon!). Since three months I am back to building inlang. Unsurprisingly, abusing git as SDK that runs in the browser leads to numerous slowdowns but I think we are onto something here. I spent (maybe too much) time thinking about the architecture, see RFC-001 but I am prepping a new YouTube video and release of inlang as I am writing this message! Thanks again for the message. I can't express the level of excitement messages (or questions) like lead to. If you want to get a sneak peek, ask questions 1:1 and provide feedback, shoot me a mail. I would love to exchange ideas or hop on a call. samuel.stroschein [at] inlang.com |

I noticed this project a year ago.. And now this is the third time, I considered it, but NO.
Was it really that flawed, when it was YouTube´ed?
That flawed so you still can't release, a beta of some kind? Or has the perfectionism, just taken it all over?
That a pity though, because it looked brilliant. Cheers and good luck!
