I'm having a really strange problem, and I assume it's a "me" thing because Google-Fu returns zero relevant results for my issue, and there is nothing that I can find in the docs to aid in troubleshooting. I installed Sunshine on my windows gaming vm, which has a full dgpu passed to it. Using moonlight, I can get an excellent remote desktop session, and I can even run furmark and hwmonitor to confirm that the vm is indeed using the correct gpu, everything works as expected there. Initially I was doing this setup with a dummy hdmi plug in my dgpu. What I cannot do, at all, is launch games from Steam, Steam Big Picture, Playnite, etc. I have attempted listing individual games as commands, using the steam:// command - nothing. In all cases (I am testing with Fallout 4 from Steam if that matters) the game begins to launch (button in steam turns from green to blue) and then the game simply doesn't launch at all. I find this very strange since, as I say, I can run furmark and even watch 4k video just fine using the remote desktop session (with moonlight/sunshine). Windows event viewer shows nothing related to the failure of the games to launch (although there do seem to be some errors associated with the certificate ge9's IddSampleDriver, which I attempted to install in the belief that maybe it was my dummy plug causing the issues. No joy. There is also nothing relevant that I can see in the sunshine logs on webUI. I'm not exactly technically inept, but I'm really stuck here. I don't even see that the fallout process appears in the vm's task manager. Does anyone have any suggetsions? Everything seems to be working just fine on the VM (and I have turned off any virtualized displays, there is no VNC or Spice running - the vm should only be expecting one output). Thanks all, and thanks to the devs for all the hard work. The remote desktop session seems great so I'm really anxious to see how the gaming performs on my home network. I'm so close to getting this setup working... I think I must be missing something really simple. |

... Nevermind. This is my fault. I went to troubleshoot this by trying to attach a monitor to the dGPU directly - bypassing Sunshine/Moonlight. Was not able to get output, despite having installed my software (Steam, Sunshine) and completing the aforementioned confirmation that dGPU works (Furmark) using NoVNC. Google led me to results that suggested to update my Nvidia drivers. Duh. I had never owned an Nvidia card before and am not really used to Windows pulling down drivers (which it did for my dGPU, but they were very outdated). Downloaded Nvidia Experience, updated to latest drivers, rebooted the guest. Got direct monitor output working with the guest. Was able to launch Fallout 4. Connected from a second device via Moonlight to the Sunshine server on the guest. Fallout now launches and plays beautifully. Since I made no change to the guest other than to update drivers, it leads me to believe that it was just an issue with the older drivers. Wanted to update to avoid any duplication of effort. Much thanks again to all devs and contributors for your excellent work! |
