Exporting "Custom Layout Definition"

Is there anyway to export a "Custom Layout Definition" to yaml and / or format that can be source controlled? When I hit the export button I get a JSON file that cannot directly be stored in git.

I am trying to develop on a qa site and then source control the results.

They get stored unter var/classes/customlayouts and can simply be added to git.

That does not look to be happening with a write_target of settings-store. A write_target of symfony-config does not look to work (perhaps I need to be in debug mode for that?) as I get an error about not writable.

with settings-store, its written into the DB. you can choose one or the other, not both.

If you're working on a prod env, you cannot write these files, pimcore prevents these with debug disabled.

What confused me is that (in prod mode) new classes are defined with flat files (which can be added to git) but the custom layouts can only be stored in the DB and there is no way to then export a portable file.

yep... that is confusing. For new classes, pimcore has to have the permission to create files, thats why its handled a bit different I think.
