Suggestion for default state?

Don't really want to use default persistence with my broker, any chance a "default: value" could be added as an option? I'm using a condition to hide a value based on it's state, I'd rather it be hidden and only show if the setting is switched on.

Further to this, if I do use persistence then the item I subscribe too 'flickers' on the screen every 5-10 seconds, assumingly it's because it is constantly updating.
