Describe the Bug An update in September (or August maybe?) has resulted in avatar audio sources to have a crackling effect for everyone in the lobby, making them basically unintelligible noise.

Steps To Reproduce Play an avatar audiosource around other people, especially music or a lengthened audio source.

Expected Behavior Standard avatar audio that can be heard normally by everyone.

Additional Context Apologies if this isn't a Great Pug issue, maybe it's just VRChat as a whole right now? I've just heard it from a bunch of people that this is occurring in the Pug, so I thought to post here.

I'm quite sure this is a game wide bug, don't have any avatars with audio to check though.

Very Revy just told me it's a Pug only bug.

I think it’s a mix. I think worlds setting specific available settings on avatar audio can cause it. So options that should work have unwanted side effects.

I made a change in the last build that I hope will address this.

Hmm, the issue still seems to be there sadly. Or is the change you mention something to come in the future?

I can imagine it's a pain to find the source of the issue!

@GBisk Thanks for the followup! I did indeed make a minor tweak hoping that would be all that was needed.

I'll make further adjustments, and they should be in the build that contains the halloween event on Friday.

That sounds great! Thank you. Will be happy to use my avatar sounds again (in a non-annoying way). :D

@owlboy
Hi again.

So the change you made has helped reduce the crackling, but it's still really hard to hear audio. I've tested this with friends and the audiosources are playing at something like 20% of the volume they should be, so even 100% avatar volume settings and close proximity audio is quiet.

We've also noticed you sometimes hear a crackling sound at the beginning of each sound, usually for 0.5 seconds and then the audiosource plays normally at a low volume.

Another attempt at fixing would be really appreciated.

Hey. Just wondering if you have an update on the issue? :)

@GBisk

I've tweaked settings again to be a new combination. I'm not sure if it will help or not. This might be the best I can do until I am able to update BetterPlayerAudio to the newest version.

Appreciate the work. The volume is a little bit better, though the audio will now crackle several times a second. I guess that update you mention is needed to fully fix it, when you're able to.
