Reasons for jumpbox creation unclear

We are a little confused about the security benefits of a jumpbox. While we understand we want to keep things as private as possible in terms of networking, we are having trouble wrapping our minds around how connecting to the jumpbox with a private key is more secure than connecting to the BOSH Director with a private key. Basically, maybe the story should expand upon the "super security fun time reasons."
