The way the TCI recipe is arranged out currently it can process either CMIP5 or CMIP6 datasets but not a mixture of both because switching requires hand edits to the variable name (mrlsl vs mrsol) and mip table (Lmon vs Emon). There's possibly a simple solution of having separate CMIP5 and CMIP6 datasets lists and diagnostic tasks in the same recipe.
