only video players work?

A command like
xwinwrap -b -s -fs -st -sp -nf -ov -fdt -- mpv -wid WID --really-quiet --framedrop=vo --no-audio --panscan="1.0" Pictures/wallpaper/xarcity180.mp4 -loop

will work but if I try to put any other program in the background like chrome it will just open a new window and make my desktop black.
xwinwrap -b -s -fs -st -sp -nf -ov -fdt -- google-chrome

is there something that I am missing?
