Steps to reproduce

How'd you do it?

  1. Download .pkg as described in the official documentation.
  2. Run /opt/metasploit-framework/bin/msfconsole.
  3. Either run ./msfupdate within msf6 > (msfconsole prompt) or standalone via /opt/metasploit-framework/bin/msfupdate.
  4. Upon completion, msfconsole stays within the same version (after exiting and re-entering the msfconsole too).

I'm running on a Apple M1 with Sonoma 14.6.1

Were you following a specific guide/tutorial or reading documentation?

https://docs.metasploit.com/docs/using-metasploit/getting-started/nightly-installers.html#macos-manual-installation

Expected behavior

After running msfupdate, the latest version should be persistently installed.

Current behavior

The following msfconsole banner appears and the version is consistenly more that 2 weeks old:

This copy of metasploit-framework is more than two weeks old.
Consider running 'msfupdate' to update to the latest version.

Indeed, it is now fixed! What was the actual underlying issue?

Thanks for the update! There was a silent failure in the release process behind the scenes, it's been resolved now 👍
