This serves as a tracking issue for the changes candidates to be backported to the releases/2.8.0 branch.

Target release for these changes are before the RHOAI 2.8.2 z.stream release right now.

Note: I haven't updated this issue for some time already as the code got wild; backports are done without any formal and thorough tracking on one place anymore.

We may consider to close this issue in the future if we won't be using it. Also, apart from 2.8.z stream, we now have also 2.10.z stream.

iirc, f2b2407 (#1335) ??? wasn't backported because it was unlikely to run 2.8 on IBM Cloud, so I preferred not to perturbate any how the stable branch.
But it should be ok to backport.
