Students are frusturated when not being able to complete exercise 1

Describe the solution you'd like
The value gained from exercise 1 (in my opinion) is the concept of infrastructure as code and the idea of a phoenix server. While introducing the team to a number of technologies in this exercise is interesting (and useful) there has been feedback that figuring out how to deploy everything isn't necessarily beneficial to them. What I'd like to see is what is the minimum amount of configuration required to drive home these points, but also allows us to quickly (and successfully) get this in place.
