Prerequisites

  • I have searched for duplicate or closed feature requests
  • I have searched for plugins that provide already provide the feature

Proposal

  1. Enable folder sorting in hierarchical order eg:
    a
    b
    c
    A
    B
    C

  2. Enable new folders to be created either as subfolders or root folders eg:

Inbox
-New folder 1
-New folder 2

Inbox
New folder 1
New folder 2
-New folder 3

  1. Enable drag & drop folder organization

  2. Ensure when i connect to my webmail server using IMAP on Outlook, I will still be able to automatically sort my folders and subfolders in alphabetical order.

Motivation and context

I am currently unable to sort my Roundcube folders at all. Currently when I select sort functionality in Outlook or I restart Outlook, my folders are arranged in random order.

Outlook has nothing to do with how Roundcube sorts folders and vice versa. I haven't heard of anything like that in IMAP protocol.

Roundcube allows folder creation as top-level or as a subfolder, it depends on the IMAP server. Normally, it is possible, but some servers are more restrictive and allow only messages or only subfolders. Roundcube detects what kind of server it's connected to and acts accordingly.

For an option to reposition folders we already have a ticket #5003.

I don't know why your folders list is not sorted. Normally it is. What Roundcube version? What PHP version? What OS? What locales installed on the server? Is that "A" letter (in "A test") a normal ASCII "A" or something unicode that only looks like "A"?
