What's wrong?

Sometimes after the computer goes into hibernation, the keyboard backlight stops working after waking up. I am unable to turn it on. In G-helper I try to set different light modes, different keyboard brightness - no luck.

How to reproduce the bug?

  1. Hibernate laptop
  2. Wake up
  3. Repeat couple times with varying lenght of hibernate time
  4. Keyboard backlight stops working

@Pjooo Does restarting the app help in these situations?

Cause I see that you have Asus services running

12.01.2025 21:50:54: Optimization service is running

And in this case, Asus Optimization Service handles backlight brightness hotkeys (not G-Helper). So if hotkeys don't work most likely it's just some firmware issue with keyboard, so it stops working completely after hibernations.

Hotkeys are working - on display I get your program's info that keyboard backlight level changes (low, medium, high, off).

However on every single setting backlight doesn't turn on at all. I'll try restarting G-Helper next time it happens.

@Pjooo toast notification means that hotkeys are processed. But if Asus Optimization service is not able to change backlight brightness (and also G-Helper is not able to change backlight mode) - then most likely it's just a firmware hiccup.

Can I do anything about that? Or the only option is to contact asus?

@Pjooo well, to exclude possible software fixes - try to restart G-Helper. As on restart it would run all RGB init commands again (and also re-connect to keyboard via USB), and if after that backlight still won't work I can't do anything else.

You can try Hard Reset, it often fixes things like that.

How do you get to hibernation in a first place ? Via sleep or directly?

@Pjooo By they way, try to stop asus services via Extra settings. Just to double check that it's not something they cause in a first place

I always go directly to hibernate. Sleep keeps fans spinning all the time, so I don't use it. On my previous laptop it also was buggy.

After regular system restart keyboard backlight goes back online.

I'll try to restart your software with your tips once this bug happens, and I'll let you know.
