Port common functionalities from mre

Reason
We have been adding some methods to makam_recognition_experiments (which is derived from the cookiecutter template), which can be used in a generic way, e.g. jupyter logging.

Design
Once makam_recognition_experiments/14 is closed, move the common functionality to the cookiecutter template. The functionalities may include:

1. Changes/improvements to the docker images
2. Methods in the Python package
   2.1. changes in setup, requirements etc.
   2.1. Relevant tests
3. sphinx documentation

Acceptance Criteria

Tests ported for all new functionalities must pass
