Note from Ilan:
We might want to check this set of projects out too. They were written
for LinuxConfAU and do a lot of what we're discussing:
http://code.timvideos.us/Home.html

The two projects that look most interesting to me are:
gst-switch http://code.timvideos.us/gst-switch.html (C)
http://github.com/timvideos/gst-switch (M)
https://groups.google.com/group/gst-switch (I)
irc://irc.freenode.org/#gst-switch gst-switch
http://code.timvideos.us/gst-switch.html aims to do interactive live
mixing of incoming video streams, designed to meet the needs of
conference recording. Designed as a flexible replacement for DVSwitch
http://dvswitch.alioth.debian.org/wiki/, and based around GStreamer
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/.

speakertrack http://code.timvideos.us/gst-switch.html#speakertrack
(C) http://github.com/timvideos/gst-switch Speakertrack is an
extension to GStreamer and gst-switch to allow automatic tracking of
speakers using remotely-operated PTZ
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan%E2%80%93tilt%E2%80%93zoom_camera cameras
rather then relying on a camera oper

And his session from LCA about how they do it.
