There are many who would prefer we track the closest available date to the day of filming in order for Stash to calculate the most accurate age as possible for the performers in the scene. This is essentially the Date of Production which is sometimes officially listed in production cards or on the back of DVDs. We've been holding off on using production dates until we can add them as a separate field from release date. I believe tracking both dates is necessary to properly handle multiple releases moving forward, so preserving the actual release dates as much as possible will be important.

It's not clear that this is intended to include digital vs. physical releases as well. For example, many DVD releases are a month or two earlier than the accompanying digital release of those same scenes. But since we're still defining the "date" field as the release date of one particular release and not the "original" release or the Date of Production, we would still want to use the digital release date instead of the physical release date.
An additional clarification of how the guideline applies to digital vs. physical releases would be helpful here.
