It feels like an extra step to have to go out of your course to create the first lesson.
Describe the solution you'd like
Adding in a link in the 'Lessons' meta box to 'Add New Lesson' would make it one step quicker to create your first lesson
Describe alternatives you've considered
Save the course and then go back to the Courses tab and click All Lessons and go from there.

Jason and I discussed this. The problem with adding a link is that the newly created lesson (if in a new tab or window), wouldn't automatically show in the dropdown on the single edit course page. That dropdown isn't AJAX updated with newly published content.
If you have ideas for how that could be improved in general to make lesson creation more straightforward, we can keep this open.
I don't know if a user reported this, but my gut tells me that when people are creating real courses, they start at the lesson level, create everything, then move to organize it all within the course. I could be wrong.
