Guide

How to use multiple compartmentalized Firefox instances simultaneously using profiles

Summary

A couple a years a go i followed your instruction video on how to create a firefox profile that are not so hardened, and it worked great. Sometime during the autumn or winter 2023 the automator shortcut would not work anymore. I haven't tried to fix this until now, since i'm a novice at this sort of things.

When i opened the terminal there was a message that i there had been some changes in the sytsem, and i followed what was written there on how to get the firefox command up and going again. Well, that didn't work, and i thought i should try to do the whole thing over again, following your video. The problem already started at step 1, when i try to run the command line: "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p" in terminal. This is the message i get: "zsh killed"

At apple support i managed to find this piece of information: "Starting with macOS Catalina, your Mac uses zsh as the default login shell and interactive shell." Is this the root to the problem? And how can i manage to create a work profile for firefox again?

As you probably have understood i'm not a computer wizard, far far from it, and i barely manage to follow your instructions. As long as you keep i simple and take it step by step i can manage, but i've had problems understanding and keep up on many of your videos. But i think what you do is very important, and i wish for you making even easier and more step by step videos for someone like me.

In this case i got no idea on what to do. But as far as i can understand there has been some changes in how apple runs their system on macOS, and that your guide (and even many more of them?) does not work anymore, and are not up to date.

My MacBook Pro runs OS Sonoma 14.2.1
