The first comment comes from the Rapporteur of WG-MIE who is of the view that (1) and (2) is likely to involve information retrieval in the last mile (i.e. between provider and end user). It may not be necessary to define a global standard IWXXM format for a token to be used in this case; the provider him/herself should be able to figure out the best way to do the passing of information to his/her users. Having said that, since the original request is from the SADIS Manager on the possibility to improve the distribution of QVACI, we may want to hear more from her. |

To further investigate we may want to examine the use of token in WMO WIS2 which is called a "WIS2 notification message". Making reference to https://training.wis2box.wis.wmo.int/practical-sessions/connecting-to-wis2-over-mqtt/, the following is an example of a WIS2 notification message:
This notification is distributed by the WIS2 Global Broker through the MQTT protocol. The software then retrieve the resource in the WIS2 Global Cache indicated by the URL contained in "href" under "links". Now in IWXXM, gml:identifier will be used to identify both a collection and its WxObject(s). The following is extracted from an example of a QVACI collection:
Assuming an API allows retrieval of an item by specifying an ID (see Para. 8.2.7.1 of the OGC API - Environmental Data Retrieval Standard). In this case a QVACI collection with gml:identifier of 59cb8426-e1de-47fd-a0fa-8bef777dfc98 may be retrieved through:
A short form of the QVACI collection can be expressed as (provided the receiving software understands this notation and download the full report online):
This short form of an IWXXM message can be used as a token without the need to create a general purpose IWXXM token. All we need to do is to provide relevant information of its possible use in the IWXXM guideline for implementers' consideration. Further views are most welcomed. |

During WG-MIE/11, there were discussions on:
These two will be investigated separately. In particular:
(1) will be explored with the development of a (general purpose?) token in IWXXM form
(2) will be explored with the collection and analysis of relevant use cases
