Some thoughts from survey participants about Guidelines:

  • No information regarding Cinema 4D, the information on file formats and how to correctly structure the compressed files is to short, images or better explanations would help
  • the instructions seem fine, the upload just doesn't work or is not explained well enough
  • maybe there is not enough information in the guidelines
  • it's not documented if animation is possible
  • some 3D-files can be saved in binary or ascii format. The instructions should point out, which one is preferred.

Despite of that participants are divided on the two groups. The first one is saying that we are not able to describe every possible formats and software in the guidelines and our efforts should focus only on the most popular softwares or even just Blender:

"You can't provide instructions for every file format, for every possible program in it's different versions. There are hundreds out there. Concentrate on the most common and robust file formats for viewer uploads an let the users figure out how to meet the requirements. They know the software they use.
If you still want software instructions, then concentrate on Blender as way to channel the users results through one final software for quality control and final adjustments. Leave it to the users to get the models from their programs into Blender."

The second group wants to have more software, while they occurred problems and their case was not part of our guidelines yet:

"Please describe how to export from multiple programs"

We should prepare as much guidelines as possible, but it will take time.
