The Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC) (en: International Union of Railways) has a statistics unit:

• API: https://uic-stats.uic.org/about/ —appears to be a custom API, not according to any standard like SDMX.

Data include:

• 108 different measures grouped in 11 domains
• Time: apparently annual resolution, from as early as 1995 to as late as 2021 (varies by data provider).

Further information I learned from a conversation with the head of statistics:

• UIC members are companies, not national government, so data are provided by these companies.
• UIC tags all incoming data according to 3 levels of confidentiality:
  • Public.
  • Embargoed, to be released after some period of time
  • Private, only available to other UIC member companies.
