Here we are going to create (pretty much) the most simple package possible with GNU Guix. We are going do download a jar file and make it available in the store to run with a (free software) Java JRE.
Note that it is a clear goal of the GNU project and the whole system is designed around that. Even so, you can still stick in binary blobs if you want. Main thing is that they need to be available in the /gnu/store to be seen at build/install time. You can do that if you really need to.
This way I hope you get a taste for Guix packaging - it is simple - and continue from here.
