curious if you have any documentation on contributing?

For example, I'm looking in the tests and wanted to try adding another test. I noticed the tests use a .mo file that is apparently binary. How can i add a new translation so that it's picked up by the tests?

Seems like those .mo files are outdated, going to delete them. But, anyway, I agree, that we should have something likeCONTRIBUTING.md. Feel free to ask me anything here if you need some help.
