Hi @smaye81 , please tell me why prototool is no longer supported? Why do you recommend switching to a buf that is not yet in the release?

If I submit some kind of pr, will it be poured into the master and a new version will be released?

Hi @int3cd. Thanks for contacting. I am actually no longer at Uber and therefore haven't been able to provide support to the repo. Suffice it to say that this repo is no longer actively maintained.

However, the creator of Prototool is also the creator of Buf and the Buf ecosystem is much more robust. It is actively maintained with regular communication and updates as there is a dedicated team working on it

I know that it is not easy to switch tools sometimes so I understand the reluctance, but I would highly encourage you to migrate to Buf if possible. The Buf CLI can provide you with everything that Prototool provides and so much more. There is a guide for migrating from Prototool to make it easy and there is a Slack community ready to answer any questions you have.

Again I apologize for lack of support. Normally I would simply officially deprecate this repo since it is no longer active, but since I don't work at Uber any more, I don't feel comfortable doing that without their permission. If someone in the community that reads this from Uber would like to take on the maintenance then I would love to hand over the reins (or deprecate it officially). Otherwise, give Buf a try. It is definitely worth checking out.
